The new Fairfield County Disabilities Office Building allows for specific needs of the consumers and flexible spaces within the design promote community involvement. The new administration building allows the existing workshop building to expand its services to area residents. The Disabilities and Special Needs Board has provided services to people with developmental disabilities for the last twenty-five years.
The two-story office building was designed on a front to back sloping site to expand and consolidate all administrative services currently located in the workshop, trailer, and existing office areas. The new building is oriented perpendicular to the original one-story facility with a landscaped courtyard between for shared use. The upper level presents a positive impression to both the visitors and public from the main road with the angled front porch. Outside materials are both vertical and horizontal metal and cement board siding inspired by the local houses throughout Winnsboro. Inside rooms include offices, conference rooms, the community training room, and ample storage that is planned specifically for future growth. Finishes are comfortable and warm throughout for a home away from home environment. Parking is separated for safety and operations. Through the dedicated efforts of the employees, volunteers, county and state, the expansion allows many more consumers the opportunity they deserve to work in both the expanded workshop and community!
