Our Approach
At Architecture Unlimited, we design spaces where individuals and communities thrive. We balance creative design and innovation with fiscal responsibility to deliver quality results while also addressing the challenges unique to each project. To achieve these ends, we start simply: we listen to our clients. We work to understand our clients’ needs and goals, as well as what keeps them up at night, and offer them the best solution to make their vision a reality.
Over the past 40 years, we’ve maintained an attention to detail and a commitment to quality that solves problems and transcends solutions. We know that each project, each site, each client is unique. To us, design must balance and integrate multiple elements — form, programming, engineering, implementation, culture, budget, and aesthetic — in order to successfully meet the challenge that each project poses.
OUR STORY
A third-generation family business, Architecture Unlimited was established by Ralph Sherer, RA in 1975. Ralph quickly developed a reputation for commitment to his clients and his craft that has built and sustained the business for over 40 years.
After growing up in the industry, Ralph’s son, Jeff, began his career under his father’s tutelage, joining the firm in 1990 as an intern. Before returning to Architecture Unlimited in 2015, Jeff worked as Principal and Vice President of a regional design firm. Today, he serves as the President of AU and where his son and daughter have also joined the team to fulfill the firm’s vision.
The team at Architecture Unlimited brings over 90 years of combined experience in planning, architectural design and construction administration. Today, Architecture Unlimited designs projects for a wide range of clients in commercial, municipal, education, recreation, religious, residential/multifamily, and historic markets. Our mission, regardless of project type, is to simplify the complex. With offices located in Matthews & Wilmington, NC, Columbia, SC, and Huntsville, AL, we work with our clients to find creative and responsible design solutions that not merely create beautiful spaces, but enhance communities.
